Do I need to report to the DMV that I lost my driver license? How do I get a replacement driver license?
No, you simply order a replacement driver license. Here are the options:
If you are a US citizen or immigrant and have a non commercial driver license, the best option for replacing a lost license is ordering online. You will pay $25 with a credit or debit card to order your replacement. This is the fastest method we have available.
You can find out when the license is printed and mailed by viewing our DL/ID Card Tracking System. Enter your driver license number to track the issuance. Please allow 7 to 10 days to receive the license in the mail. Online issuances are mailed first class mail. There are no options available to request overnight mailing for online purchases.
If you are unable to log in, please visit any Florida driver license or County Tax Collector's office to process your transaction. You can go to any driver license office in Florida, regardless of county with the following exceptions. These counties only serve residents who live within their county: Charlotte, Lake, Manatee, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Santa Rosa and Sumter.
If you have not already been issued a Real ID compliant license in an office since January 1, 2010, be sure to visit our website at GatherGoGet to make sure you bring all the necessary identification documents with you.
Also, you may want to make an appointment for a date and time that's convenient for you. Click here to select the county, and then once you click on the county, you will see a list of the office locations and have an option to make an appointment where applicable. Appointments are recommended, but not required at most offices. If it says By Appointment Only, you know you should not walk in to that office. Otherwise, you can go to any office that is convenient.
Cost is $25 for a replacement Class E license. If you visit a tax collector's office offering driver licenses services, you also will pay a $6.25 service fee.
If you are temporarily out of state and unable to order a replacement online, and would like us to mail you a 90 day temporary permit, please email us your full name, date of birth, last four numbers of social security number and an out of state mailing address. (We cannot issue temporary permits to in-state addresses). Request a 90 day temporary permit be mailed to you at the out of state address. The temporary permit will NOT have a photo. When you return to Florida, you can be issued a replacement driver license at an office.
All non-immigrants are required to present proof of legal presence documents and apply for the replacement driver license in person at a Florida office.
Although you may currently be eligible to obtain a replacement driver license online, please consider this important note:
We encourage those who have not obtained a Real ID compliant driver license or identification card plan a visit to a driver license office in the future to ensure your license or identification card is accepted by federal authorities. The Department of Homeland Security announced on December 20, 2013, that enforcement of REAL ID credentials will begin in a measured, fair and responsible way. Floridians will first see enforcement at nuclear power plants and restricted areas of certain federal facilities. No changes in enforcement are planned to occur any sooner than 2016 at airports across the country.
For additional information regarding the REAL ID Act or its enforcement please visit the Department of Homeland Security website at this link: http://www.dhs.gov/secure-drivers-licenses
To become Real ID compliant, you must take documents (see GatherGoGet.com) to a driver license office when you renew or replace your license.
