Renew License Plate Online

How can I find out if I can renew my license plate online?

Please visit GoRenew.com and enter the required information to locate your record.  Follow all the instructions and when you reach the Choose Services page, you can see if you are eligible to renew the license plate/registration online.  You can renew a tag up to 3 months in advance.  If the tag has been expired 8 months or more, you cannot renew it online and must go in person to an office.

The most common reason a license plate cannot be renewed online is because current Florida insurance is not appearing in our database.  Insurance companies are required to electronically notify our department of current insurance.  Sometimes there is an error in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) - and we cannot match the insurance to your vehicle, therefore we cannot allow you to renew online. Make sure the VIN on your insurance policy matches the VIN on your vehicle.  If so, then contact your insurance company and ask them to research their records thoroughly to ensure they are properly submitting it to us. Also, they must be a company licensed to do business in Florida--it cannot be out of state insurance.

In the meantime, you'll need to renew by mail or in person with your local tax collector and provide proof of your current insurance.

Your local tax collector is your best source for questions about title and registration,  find their contact information here.

**Note: At the end of the 10-year license plate cycle, all plates are required to be replaced. If you renew online and currently have a non-personalized plate that is up for replacement, you will be mailed a new plate.  If you have a personalized license plate and it’s time to replace it, you must renew at a county tax collector's office or tag agency.

*Effective 8/19/2015 a $2.00 convenience fee will be charged when using gorenew. The $2.00 convenience fee will be charged per order (or shopping cart) NOT per transaction. For example, if you are renewing a driver license and a registration, you will be charged one $2.00 convenience fee for the entire order. This fee is non-refundable.*
