Tried to renew registration, but there is no insurance on file

Why is my FL insurance information not on file so I can renew my FL registration online?

If you tried to renew your tag on-line at , and could not because your current Florida insurance is not on file with us, it could be for the following reasons.

1) Your FL insurance company submitted current coverage, but the vehicle identification number (VIN) your FL insurance company has on file for you does not match the VIN number in our motor vehicle database. Therefore, the coverage is not matching up with the vehicle and updating.

2) In some cases the FL insurance company has failed to report the current coverage to us.

We cannot renew the tag without proof of current Florida insurance.  If your Florida insurance information is not appearing in our database for the tag you are attempting to renew, then you will not be able to renew online.  You will be required to either go in person to your tag office and present proof of Florida insurance or mail your registration renewal along with proof of insurance to your local tag office.

In the meantime, we suggest you contact your Florida insurance company and request they electronically file current FL insurance information and verify the correct VIN is listed on your policy to avoid this inconvenience in the future.

License plates may be renewed up to 3 months before the expiration date.
